Laundry Tips and Tricks

Are you overwhelmed by your piles of laundry??

That used to be me, too. I have been in your shoes of avoiding my laundry because I was so overwhelmed by all of it. When my first son was born in 2018, my mom and mother in law were both super helpful in helping me take care of my newborn baby, but they also helped with a lot of the responsibilities around our house as well. One of them being my laundry. My mom and mother in law would always laugh at me at how much laundry they were having to fold. It didn’t dawn on me that it wasn't necessarily normal to have TONS of clothes in one load of laundry. At the time, I thought it would be easier to just throw it all in at one time and “get it over with.” However, with the advice of my mom and mother in law, I have since learned that smaller loads of laundry are much less overwhelming. Along the way, now two kids later, I have learned a few more tips and tricks that have helped me not get so overwhelmed and stressed when it comes to tackling my laundry.

…and I am sharing them in hopes they will help you, too!

Now, you will rarely find that large amount of clothes in my dryer that has been fluffed 5x throughout the week, or the pile of clean clothes sitting in my bedroom chair waiting to be put away. These two scenarios used to be the norm in our house and my husband would joke that the dryer was his second closet. I’m not saying this never happens anymore because life still happens and time gets away from me, but it’s not the norm anymore.

If you do not have a weekly laundry schedule yet, here is a sample of what mine looks like, along with a FREE printable for you to create your own laundry schedule that works best for you.

Some things to note that may help you in creating your own laundry schedule - I do kids’ clothing twice a week because it tends to pile up much quicker than everything else. I also don’t micro-sort mine and my husband’s clothing. Most of the time, it all goes in together.

Create a schedule that works best for your family and your needs! Think about your top 5 categories and split your largest category into 2 days.

*Disclaimer: Laundry is a very broad topic and can be done in many different ways. It is very specific to each individual and each family. What works for a single individual probably won’t work with a family of four and what works for a family of four probably won’t work for a larger family. So take our tips and tricks and adjust them to what will work best for you and your family.
