Tackling Your Mail
Do you have a pile of mail that you need help tackling?
We are here with some practical tips to help you tackle that pile of mail and not let it get that way again.
First of all, getting your incoming mail under control is a vital part of reducing clutter in your home and making sure you don’t miss any important dates or bills to be paid.
Here are some helpful tips to help you stay on top of your incoming mail:
Have a designated place where you bring your mail in. Having a specific place helps items not get lost.
Open your mail right away. This step allows you to take a couple of minutes to sort through what came in and you can take action on it immediately. This will reduce the clutter and overwhelm almost instantly.
Throw the junk mail away. As we all know, most of the mail that comes through is junk. So this easy step allows you to go ahead and get rid of any of the unnecessary clutter that comes in.
Create a filing system. Here at Suddenly Simple, we like to keep things simple. So, we suggest having 3 categories.
To Do - These are the items that need immediate action. This can include bills that need to be paid, doctor appointments that need to be made or any other items that you need to do. Once it has been done, you can either throw that piece of paper away or you can file it away.
To File - These are items that you want to save, but don't have the time to do it right away. We suggest going through these papers once a month and filing them away where they belong.
To Open - This step should have already taken place when the mail came in. However, we know this may not always be the case, so we provide an option where you can put some unopened mail. But in your filing system, there is a boundary - in the picture above, you can see the spot for unopened mail is small, which means you don’t have the room to let a lot of papers pile up before you need to open them and go through them.
By following these simple steps, you can easily tackle your incoming mail, stay organized and clutter free, saving you time and stress.
